Living Comfortably

This may be going a bit too far!!

A wheel with a solid back which prevents damage to tails gives good exercise, as do ladders and twigs wedged into the cage. Rats are not quite so agile as mice, so they need more solid branches to climb.

A living place, empty except for their sleeping quarters, would be very dull for a mouse and might even cause him/her to gnaw at their cage in boredom.

They need something hard to nibble on. Your pet store may sell blocks of hard wood which are suitable for this purpose. If you can find a small piece of hard wood from a fruit tree for example, this will do just as well as a bought one.

Mice also enjoy having a short length of pipe that they can squeeze themselves through. Don't include anything made of brittle plastic which could injure the animal.
